Perconta Sortorex

”’Perconta Sortorex”’ is a high-speed coin counting and sorting machine designed for professional cash handling environments, such as banks, cash centers, and value transport companies. Manufactured by Perconta, a division associated with Scan Coin, the Sortorex is renowned for its precision, reliability, and ability to process large volumes of coins efficiently. It was last certified for accuracy by the European Technical & Scientific Centre (ETSC) in 2022.

Design and Features

The Sortorex model features a compact design. It includes an intuitive user interface with clearly labeled keys and a high-visibility display tailored for operator convenience. Optional accessories include secondary displays, printers, and PC connectivity for data export.

Key technical specifications include:

  • ”’Processing Speed”’: Up to 3,500 coins per minute, making it one of the fastest machines in its class.
  • ”’Coin Recognition”’: Utilizes advanced sensors to identify and count coins with high accuracy, while detecting and rejecting foreign, counterfeit, or damaged coins.
  • ”’Sorting Capacity”’: Capable of sorting a wide range of coin denominations simultaneously, with outputs configurable for bagging, tubing, or drawer storage via hoses or sacks.
  • ”’Durability”’: Engineered for continuous heavy-duty operation, maintaining performance during extended use without degradation.

The machine’s hopper and transport mechanism employ high-quality components, such as durable coin feed belts, ensuring long-term reliability. Maintenance is supported by service providers using original Perconta parts.

Applications

The Sortorex is primarily used in commercial and institutional settings where high-volume coin processing is required. It minimizes manual handling, reduces errors, and accelerates workflows in retail banking, armored transport services, and central cash processing facilities. Its ability to handle diverse coin types and integrate with other systems makes it suitable for multi-currency environments, though it is optimized for Eurozone coins based on ETSC certification.

History and Development

Perconta, a German-origin company specialising in cash handling technology, developed the Sortorex as part of its lineup of professional coin sorters, alongside models like Sortovit and Sortofax. The machine evolved, emphasising speed and counterfeit detection in response to growing demands in the financial sector. By the early 2000s, it had established a reputation as a “queen among coin counters” for its robustness and efficiency.

Production and support continue through authorized distributors and service networks, although the German branch of the manufacturer had announced in January 2019 that it would accept the last orders on 28th February 2019 and that the support would end as per 28th February 2026. The Sortorex remains a benchmark for coin sorting technology, competing with modern automated systems while retaining a loyal user base due to its proven track record.
